Caries treatment

Practically everyone knows that caries is the process of destruction of hard dental tissues. According to statistics, more than 90% of the world’s population suffers from this disease! Its inception is difficult to notice with the naked eye. However, regular oral cavity examinations by a dentist once every 6 months allow the doctor to diagnose caries in a timely manner if present and treat it promptly.

Causes that trigger the onset of caries:

  • poor oral hygiene;
  • consumption of a large amount of carbohydrates in food (excessive consumption of sugar and sugar-containing products);
  • heredity;
  • unbalanced diet (including strict diets);
  • chronic diseases that lower immunity.

In the initial stage, there is dissolution of the mineral substances that make up the dental tissue, and subsequently a defect in the tooth appears. Destruction of dental enamel occurs under the influence of bacteria. Initially, plaque appears on the teeth, which becomes a good nutrient medium for pathogenic microorganisms. When carbohydrates are consumed, bacteria begin to produce acids that destroy the enamel of the tooth, and subsequently the bacteria penetrate into deeper layers.

Stages of caries development

  1. spot stage – light spots form on the enamel, indicating leaching of calcium;
  2. superficial caries – a defect appears within the enamel layer;
  3. medium caries – in addition to enamel, the disease affects the upper layers of dentin;
  4. deep caries – causes damage to the deep layers of dentin.

Prevention prevents the need for caries treatment.
The best prevention of caries is properly performed tooth hygiene at home, as well as professional cleaning once every 3-6 months in the office of a dental hygienist. During professional hygiene, the specialist will remove formed dental deposits, which are the cause of carious processes and gum diseases, and if necessary, apply fluoride-containing (enamel-strengthening) preparations.

Preventive measures also include regular scheduled visits to the dentist, who can detect caries at the initial stage and take measures to eliminate the problem. Caries treatment today, thanks to effective anesthesia, is absolutely painless, and modern restoration materials allow for full restoration of tooth functionality and aesthetics.
